Background
CeleCor Therapeutics is a biotechnology company with a mission to develop therapies that focus on prehospital treatments that will get patients experiencing a heart attack to the hospital with a better chance of surviving.
CeleCor is developing zalunfiban; a medication designed for treating patients with a heart attack before they reach the hospital, ideally given in the form of an epi-pen by emergency medical services. CeleCor is currently running the CeleBrate clinical trial to assess the safety and efficacy of a subcutaneous injection of zalunfiban.
Project Goals
The goal of this project was to develop a website targeted to pharma and biotech companies, which consist of business strategists and scientists, cardiologists, and other specialists who need to assess the potential impact of zalunfiban and make recommendations to their acquisition team. The website audience is a place where potential investors can learn more, share, and download investor information.
Challenges / Lessons Learned
The website was only one portion of this effort, there was a prior exercise that included developing investor decks, messaging, branding, graphics, and video contents. These pieces were necessary to develop a website strategy and begin building, which meant we needed to take a waterfall approach to leading up to the build, and we were targeting a specific launch date. After establishing a UX strategy, inclusive of sitemap, wireframes and user journeys, we experienced delays in receiving the creative assets, at this point we shifted to take a more agile approach, to maintain on schedule, building with the approved requirements and wireframes. Working closely with my UX/UI and development team, we were able to determine what we could build first without firm visuals, based on benchmarked functionality, priority and minimal revision risk.
Retrospective
In the end we produced the website as intended, meeting all the requirements laid out in the beginning of the project. Our client and their stakeholders were very pleased, and we delivered on time. There is not much that I would change on this project, my team seeks to explore new ways to create and develop, I do not want to stifle this, however, I would recommend taking the path of least resistance and finding simpler solutions when time/budget are of concern.
