Background
Wondros is an agency known for taking on projects impacting public health, social justice, human rights, and more. During Wondros’ partnerships with clients in the clinical trial research space, they combined technology, community engagement and targeted outreach to help recruit diverse patients. This work inspired Wondros’ founder, Jesse Dylan, to create Wondros Health Clinical Trials Guide.
WondrosHealth.com was created to provide patients, caretakers and advocates a place to seamlessly and easily discover new treatments through clinical trials.
Leveraging trial data directly from clinicaltrials.gov, WondrosHealth.com is free to use for all patients and utilizes AI-powered smart search technology to surface the most relevant recruiting trials in the US.
Project Goals
There were numerous goals with this endeavor; for the patient/advocate/volunteer, this product was meant to provide a space where they could find clinical trials in their area, understand the trial in layman's terms—what the trial entailed, and determine their eligibility for free. For the clinical trial research sponsor, the goal was to provide a space to editorialize their trial offering(s), provide them the opportunity to share any helpful background information about their organization, videos, brochures, and aid in receiving the most qualified recruitment candidates.
Challenges / Lessons Learned
Wondros is an agency that has taken on the task of building their own product. Product of course is an ongoing, iterative effort that must be maintained as a business. While some initial planning was done to better understand the landscape, a firm business model remained elusive and yet the product was still being built. The MVP model itself was too ambitious in my opinion. As this was viewed as an internal project, this should have been maintained as a separate business venture, taking a much more incremental approach and only continuing when proved viable.
Retrospective
Several people worked on this product, it is truly a labor of love with the very altruistic intention of helping the most people. I look forward to seeing the continued expansion of this product, particularly for the clinical trials recruiters who have the very difficult task of finding people who meet their criteria and that are willing to remain enrolled in the lengthier trials. It is my hope that Wondros can monetize what they currently have and continue funding what could be a life saving product for many people.
